What is Rolfing®

Why is alignment important?

Why is alignment important?

Rolfing is a method of manual therapy also known as structural integration. Unlike most modalities, Rolfers look at the body as a continuum, the whole, the big picture. This is what makes Rolfing so effective. Rolfers work with the body’s fascial layers, and because of the use of minimal lubricant, the work and its effects travel deep within the body. If you have never been Rolfed, it is suggested to go through a full body series called the 10 Series. “The 10” is a full body session broken up into 10 parts. During this process, client and rolfer will work together to unwind your body’s chronic patterning put in place by years of repetitive motion.  The goal is to realign your posture properly.

Rolfing does not have to hurt. Every Rolfer has a different style and different uses of pressure. However, this is your nody, and you are always in control of it. If needed, pressure and contact adjustments can be maybe. The goal for the client is to meet your rolfer's work with your awareness. If something is so deep your mind wants to run away, and you want to curl your toes- this is not an effective way to release an area. Speak up!

Rolfing®is a process that client and practitioner go through together.

Posture not only effects how we look, but it plays a massive role in how we feel both physically and emotionaly, and how we move and develop. Structural alignment dictates proper blood flow to the brain, circulation to the joints and limbs, movement of the spine, and nerve function. Pain is your body’s way of telling your brain something is misaligned and causing dysfunction. Poor Posture wrecks havoc on our brain’s function and development, and is more important to fix now than ever before due to the “Tech Neck” and “iHunch” presenting from the multiple hours spent on the phones.

Function is commonly misused and not taught in our society. Rolfers educate their client of how the body is suppose to properly move: Did you know that your arms start at your low back? Did you know your legs start at your upper abdomine? With this knowledge, you can learn to move for efficiently and easily in your body.

Proper alignment allows full range of motion. Full R.O.M is vital to all as we go through life. If we can keep freedom and strength in our joints, we can move freely and balanced throughout our entire lives.

Who should try Rolfing®

Anyone can benefit from Rolfing.

  • Teenagers are especially great candiates because this is the time when most chronic repetivive motion patterns become learned. If addressed early, Rolfing can save  someone from multiple years of improper body use and potential injury risk.
  • Special needs & Cerebral palsy children can benefit greatly from increased balance, coordination, and relaxation responses caused by body work
  • Pre and Post surgery is another great time to get rolfed. Getting the soft tissue resilient and open before operations will help speed up recovery times. Working to keep compensation patterns away is also key in post-opt clients, so no new problems arise!
  • After injuries to relieve compansation patterns and reestablish full range of motion
  • Those living in chronic pain
  • Elderly populations one of the greatest problems with aging is loss of mobility. Rolfing allows individuals to access more range of motion which also helps balance and coordination.
